(WO) – SES S.A. will provide satellite connectivity for seven new floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) units operated by Petrobras, supporting offshore developments in Brazil scheduled to come online between 2026 and 2030.
The agreement will utilize SES’s O3b mPOWER medium-Earth orbit (MEO) satellite network to deliver high-capacity, low-latency communications for the FPSOs, which are expected to play a central role in expanding Brazil’s deepwater production.
The systems are designed to support real-time data transmission and digital applications critical to offshore operations, as operators increasingly rely on advanced connectivity to improve efficiency and decision-making.
Brazil remains one of the most active offshore regions globally, with Petrobras leading development of multiple deepwater projects tied to FPSO infrastructure.
“Brazil leads the world in new offshore projects,” said Ricardo La Guardia, vice president for Latin America at SES. “Petrobras’ choice to power their new FPSOs with SES confirms O3b mPOWER as the go-to platform for mission-critical energy operations.”
The deployment reflects growing demand for high-performance communications systems across offshore assets, particularly as digitalization accelerates in the oil and gas sector.
