(WO) — Eden Tech has launched Genesis, a reverse osmosis desalination system designed to improve water recovery from high-salinity produced water, with the oil and gas industry serving as the technology’s initial commercial market.
According to the company, Genesis combines reverse osmosis with centrifuge technology to recover more than 80% of clean water from high-salinity feedwater, compared with approximately 30% to 40% for conventional reverse osmosis systems. By placing reverse osmosis membranes inside a centrifuge, the system is designed to generate the pressure required for desalination while reducing membrane fouling, eliminating the need for dedicated high-pressure pumps.
Eden Tech said the technology is aimed at addressing the growing challenge of produced water management in U.S. oil and gas operations, where roughly 1 trillion gallons of high-salinity produced water are generated annually. The company said higher water recovery rates could reduce disposal volumes while creating opportunities to recover minerals from concentrated brine streams.

Beyond upstream applications, Eden Tech said Genesis is also being evaluated for municipal water supplies, data center cooling, brine mining and lithium extraction. The company said commercial opportunities for the system currently represent more than $150 million in potential sales.
