(WO) — Petrobras has confirmed a new deepwater natural gas discovery at the Sandia-1 exploratory well in Colombia’s GUA-OFF-0 Block, further expanding the company’s growing offshore gas portfolio in the country.
The Sandia-1 well, located approximately 42 km offshore in 1,251 m (4,104 ft) of water, encountered gas-bearing intervals that are being evaluated through well logging, with laboratory analyses planned to further characterize the discovery.
The well is located about 18 km from the Sirius-1 discovery and Sirius-2 appraisal wells, and approximately 9 km from the Copoazu-1 discovery, reinforcing the significant gas potential of Colombia’s offshore Caribbean basin.
Drilling began on June 12 and reached total depth on July 29, Petrobras said.
The discovery adds to a series of recent exploration successes in the block and is expected to support future resource development aimed at strengthening Colombia’s long-term natural gas supply.
Petrobras said the discovery aligns with its strategy of replenishing oil and gas reserves through frontier exploration while working in partnership with other operators.
Petrobras, through subsidiary Petrobras International Braspetro B.V. – Sucursal Colombia, operates the GUA-OFF-0 Block with a 44.44% interest. Ecopetrol holds the remaining 55.56% interest.
