(WO) — Odfjell Drilling has returned its Deepsea Atlantic semisubmersible rig to operations following a 106-day off-hire period after an equipment handling incident earlier this year.
The company said the rig resumed operations after completing repairs and installing a spare blowout preventer (BOP), replacing the unit that was dropped during the April incident.
During the downtime, Odfjell successfully recovered the dropped BOP before returning the rig to the yard for repairs and installation of the replacement equipment.
The company said it worked closely with customers, suppliers and other industry partners throughout the recovery effort, crediting employees and stakeholders for supporting the rig’s return to service.
Odfjell added that its insurance coverage includes recovery or replacement of the dropped BOP as well as repair costs associated with the incident.
