(WO) — Tenaris has started operations with its third fracing fleet in Argentina’s Vaca Muerta shale following a $110 million investment, expanding its oilfield services capacity in one of the world’s largest unconventional oil and gas plays.
The new fleet has begun work at Tecpetrol’s Los Toldos II Este field, where Tenaris will provide fracing services under an 18-month campaign.
The addition brings Tenaris’ cumulative investment in its Argentina oilfield services business to more than $240 million since 2020, when the company began investing in fracing and coiled tubing equipment. Tenaris said it has since completed more than 8,700 fracing jobs in Vaca Muerta, positioning the company as the basin’s third-largest service provider.
“Since we made the strategic decision to acquire our first hydraulic fracturing and coiled tubing equipment in 2020, we have invested more than $240 million in the development and expansion of our oilfield services business in Argentina,” said Andrea Previtali, president of Tenaris for the Southern Cone.
The new fracing fleet includes 28 pumps equipped with Dynamic Gas Blending (DGB) technology, which allows compressed natural gas to replace a significant portion of the diesel used to power operations. Tenaris said the system can reduce diesel consumption by more than 80%.
Tenaris supports its Vaca Muerta operations from a 25-hectare service center in Vista Alegre, located between Añelo and Neuquén City.
Vaca Muerta currently has 15 fracing fleets serving operators across the basin. With its third fleet now in operation, Tenaris accounts for one-fifth of the active fleets as development activity continues across the Neuquén basin.
