(WO) — TGS will launch the fourth phase of its multi-client 3D seismic program offshore Sarawak, Malaysia, adding approximately 1,020 km² of new data to support exploration across the hydrocarbon-rich basin.
The Ramform Sovereign seismic vessel is scheduled to mobilize for the survey during the fourth quarter of 2026, with acquisition expected to be completed in December.
Phase 4 is part of a broader multi-client contract covering the acquisition and processing of up to 105,000 km² of 3D seismic data offshore Sarawak. More than 20,000 km² have been acquired during the first three phases of the program.
“Sarawak basins are one of the most prolific hydrocarbon-bearing basins in Southeast Asia, holding major reserves of both oil and gas proven by numerous discoveries in recent years,” TGS CEO Kristian Johansen said.
“TGS is pleased to announce Phase 4 of the Sarawak multi-client program, which will support the growing exploration interest of energy companies in this region,” Johansen added.
The program will acquire multi-sensor GeoStreamer seismic data designed to improve subsurface imaging and support operators evaluating exploration opportunities offshore Sarawak.
PETRONAS, through Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), is working to enhance available datasets and identify new exploration plays, with particular emphasis on imaging the pre-Middle Miocene Unconformity play in deepwater areas of the Sarawak basin.
The expanded seismic coverage is intended to help operators assess prospective acreage ahead of participation in future Malaysia Bid Rounds.
TGS said the Phase 4 survey is supported by industry funding.
