(WO) — DNV has agreed to acquire Equinor’s WellSpot digital technology and will commercialize the platform as Wellhead Fatigue Manager, expanding its capabilities for monitoring and managing fatigue across the lifecycle of subsea wells.
Equinor developed and operated WellSpot over the past 15 years. The platform consolidates wellhead data, analysis and standardized workflows to help offshore operators track accumulated fatigue damage, assess risk and plan interventions.
Wellhead fatigue can result from repeated cyclic loading of subsea wellhead components over time. DNV said moving from individual engineering assessments and fragmented workflows to continuous monitoring can help operators identify risks earlier, extend well service life and make greater use of existing subsea infrastructure.
Under DNV, the platform will incorporate the company’s DNV-RP-E104 methodology for wellhead fatigue analysis with digital monitoring and data analytics capabilities. DNV plans to continue developing the software and adding features as technical standards and operating requirements evolve.

Equinor and Aker BP will be the first users of the DNV-operated Wellhead Fatigue Manager. DNV said it plans to onboard additional offshore operators and use industry feedback to guide further development of the platform.
The acquisition builds on DNV’s existing work in well integrity, subsea operations and structural engineering. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
