(WO) — Tulcan Energy Exploration & Production Company has been awarded Petroleum Prospecting Licence (PPL) 2008 offshore Nigeria, marking the company’s entry into deepwater exploration and expanding its upstream portfolio.
The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) awarded the license through Nigeria’s 2024 Licensing Round. PPL 2008 was among 19 petroleum prospecting licenses issued to 12 companies through the round as Nigeria seeks to attract investment and accelerate upstream activity.
Tulcan plans to begin technical, operational and regulatory work on the license, including detailed subsurface studies and validation of historical seismic and well data. The company will also finalize an exploration work program and conduct additional geoscience activities where required.
The company said it will evaluate potential partnerships with technical and financial firms that could provide additional expertise, technology and capital as exploration advances.
“PPL 2008 represents an important milestone for Tulcan as we expand into Nigeria’s deep offshore,” said Tayo Adeyemi Adiatu, group CEO of Tulcan Energy. “We have been deliberate in pursuing assets with strong long-term potential, and this award reflects the progress we are making in building a high-quality and diversified upstream business.”
Tulcan currently operates and holds interests in the Tom Shot Bank (PPL 244) and Odimodi (PPL 227) fields. The addition of PPL 2008 further expands the company’s Nigerian exploration portfolio.
Any future development of PPL 2008 remains subject to successful exploration and appraisal.
