(WO) — TotalEnergies and partners SOCAR and XRG have taken final investment decision (FID) on the full-field development of the Absheron gas and condensate field offshore Azerbaijan, targeting startup in 2029.
The development will increase overall Absheron production capacity to 6 billion cubic meters per annum (Bcma) of gas and 47,000 bpd of condensate. Gas production will supply Azerbaijan’s domestic market and be exported to Turkey through existing infrastructure connecting the country with European gas markets.
Located in the Caspian Sea about 100 km southeast of Baku, Absheron holds approximately 140 billion cubic meters of recoverable gas reserves. TotalEnergies operates the field with a 35% interest, alongside SOCAR with 35% and XRG with 30%.
The full-field development will comprise four subsea wells connected by a subsea pipeline to a new onshore processing plant. The plant will be fully electrified and incorporate automation and energy-efficiency technologies.
“We are pleased to announce the launch of Absheron Full Field development, a project that unlocks the full production potential of one of the Caspian Sea’s largest gas discoveries,” TotalEnergies Chairman and CEO Patrick Pouyanné said.
Absheron’s first development phase began production in 2023 and has capacity of 1.5 Bcma of gas and 12,000 bpd of condensate. The initial phase consists of a subsea production well connected to a dedicated gas processing platform and SOCAR’s existing facilities at Oil Rocks.
