President Donald Trump is set to have a private dinner with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei at the White House on Sunday, according to an Axios report.
The dinner would take place amid an ongoing battle between the artificial intelligence giant and the administration, as well as growing concerns over AI’s safety and potential mitigation measures.
The White House and Anthropic didn’t immediately respond to CNBC requests for comment.
Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., are reportedly scheduled to meet with CEOs of major AI companies on Tuesday as calls grow for more guardrails for the technology and warnings from some experts and insiders.
Amodei and OpenAI‘s CEO Sam Altman have also been called to appear at an Australian Senate inquiry on AI, the head of the investigation said on Sunday, after a rogue OpenAI bot hacked into the country’s health-system database.
The working relationship between Anthropic and the Trump administration has been fraught.
On Friday, a federal appeals court panel in Washington, D.C., upheld the Pentagon’s decision to blacklist Anthropic. In a 2-1 decision, the panel rejected Anthropic’s argument that the Department of Defense’s ban on its Claude models was arbitrary, unauthorized and unconstitutional.
