(WO) — Helmerich & Payne (H&P) will deploy seven additional FlexRobotics systems for ExxonMobil over the next 12 months, expanding the companies’ use of drilling automation technology across ExxonMobil’s operations.
The new deployments will bring the total number of FlexRobotics systems operating for ExxonMobil to nine, following the deployment of the first two systems on H&P rigs.
FlexRobotics automates repetitive rig-floor activities, reducing personnel exposure to higher-risk tasks while improving consistency and precision during drilling operations. The technology forms part of H&P’s broader drilling automation portfolio.
“Expanding the deployment of our FlexRobotics technology demonstrates the value automation can deliver in modern drilling operations,” said H&P President and CEO Trey Adams. “We are pleased to expand our collaboration with ExxonMobil and to help scale FlexRobotics technology across their operations.”
ExxonMobil said the expansion builds on lessons from the initial deployments and supports its broader effort to increase the use of advanced technologies throughout its drilling operations.
“We’re focused on expanding the deployment of technologies that make our operations safer, more efficient and more consistent,” said Bart Cahir, senior vice president of ExxonMobil Unconventional. “Expanding the use of FlexRobotics builds on what we’ve learned from our initial deployments and is another example of how we’re using automation to improve drilling performance.”
H&P did not disclose the locations of the rigs receiving the additional systems or financial terms of the expanded deployment.
