(WO) — SLB has commissioned a new liquid mud plant in Pemba, Mozambique, expanding its capacity to prepare, store and deliver drilling and completion fluids for offshore oil and gas operations.
The facility has an initial storage capacity of 21,000 bbl and is designed to support multiple customers as offshore activity increases in Mozambique. The plant will provide local fluids storage and handling capabilities, helping improve logistics and operational flexibility for offshore drilling campaigns.
The new facility expands SLB’s in-country drilling and completion fluids infrastructure and provides capacity for future expansion as demand for offshore services grows.
“As SLB marks 70 years in Mozambique, this investment reflects our confidence in the country’s future and our commitment to supporting its energy ambitions,” said Miguel Baptista, SLB’s managing director for Central, East and Southern Africa.
The project also involved significant local workforce participation. More than 100 jobs were created during construction and commissioning, with Mozambican nationals accounting for approximately 80% of the workforce.
SLB reported more than 67,000 work hours without a recordable safety incident during project delivery.
The commissioning coincides with SLB’s 70th anniversary of operations in Mozambique and strengthens the company’s ability to support offshore drilling and completion activities through locally based infrastructure and equipment.
