(WO) – Tenaris has started producing its proprietary TN 95EY steel grade at its Sault Ste. Marie Industrial Centre in Ontario. The grade is aimed at Western Canadian operators working in high-pressure, high-temperature and sour-service conditions. The company said it’s well suited to unconventional plays in the Montney and Duvernay formations.
“As energy operators advance into more demanding environments, customers are looking for pipe engineered to deliver reliable performance under increasingly challenging conditions,” said Martín Castro, president of Tenaris in Canada. He said the grade “delivers the strength and performance needed for these applications” and that making it in Canada lets Tenaris respond more directly to customers.
To bring the grade into Canadian production, Tenaris had to adapt existing manufacturing processes and handle the testing and tracking required for each pipe. Teams across operations, metallurgy, IT and laboratory testing worked on the project.
“This development strengthens Tenaris’s ability to serve Canadian customers with a Made-in-Canada product that responds to its evolving needs,” said Pablo Toy, commercial vice president for Tenaris in Canada.
Tenaris employs more than 1,300 people in Canada and has invested more than C$355 million in its Canadian operations since 2020. In May, it announced a $306-million joint investment with the federal and Ontario governments to modernize and expand its manufacturing. Tenaris says its Sault Ste. Marie facility is the only one in North America that makes both seamless and welded steel pipe under one roof.
