(WO) — Eni has launched start-up activities for the Meleiha Phase 2 (MP2) project in Egypt’s Western Desert, advancing development of a new gas hub within the Merged Meleiha concession. The project includes a gas processing facility designed to handle up to 100 MMcfd.
The project is being developed through Agiba Petroleum Company, a joint venture between Eni and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC). It is designed to increase gas processing capacity for production from fields in the area and support growth in Egypt’s domestic natural gas supply.
Meleiha Phase 2 includes development wells, gathering systems, trunklines and a dedicated gas export pipeline. The integrated infrastructure will connect new production to Egypt’s existing gas network, allowing gas resources to be brought to market.
Eni said the project will contribute to the country’s energy security by increasing natural gas availability for the domestic market. The start-up activities mark a new stage in the development of the Western Desert’s oil and gas resources.
Eni has operated in Egypt since 1954. The company reported equity hydrocarbon production of approximately 242,000 boed in the country in 2025, with activities spanning the Western Desert, Gulf of Suez, Nile Delta and Eastern Mediterranean.
