(WO) — bp has appointed Ian Tyler as permanent chair with immediate effect, following his appointment as interim chair in May 2026.
Tyler joined bp’s board as a non-executive director in April 2025 before taking over as interim chair on May 26. His appointment follows a search that considered both internal and external candidates.
Tyler has held leadership and board positions across the oil and gas, natural resources and engineering sectors. He previously served as chair of Cairn Energy and as a non-executive director of BAE Systems. He currently chairs Grafton Group and serves as senior independent director of Anglo American.
“It has been a privilege to work directly with Meg O’Neill over the past few months and to see the impact she has had since her arrival,” Tyler said. “I will lead the board’s evolution, ensuring we have the depth, experience and capabilities needed to support the company’s strategic priorities and long-term value creation.”
Separately, bp said Senior Independent Director Dame Amanda Blanc will not stand for re-election at the company’s 2027 annual general meeting. She will remain on the board until a successor is appointed.
