(WO) — Oil Spill Response Limited (OSRL) has launched a new shallow-water deployment capability designed to support capping stack installation during complex subsea well control incidents.
The system combines OSRL’s Split Lowering System (SLS), developed with InterMoor, with a new Snub Line Winch System developed by Oceaneering. Together, the technologies enable capping stack deployment when hazardous surface conditions make conventional vertical access to a well unsafe or impractical.
The SLS allows a capping stack to be deployed and lowered from an offset location outside the hazardous surface plume. The Snub Line Winch System then provides controlled final alignment and landing of the stack onto the blowout preventer (BOP) or wellhead.
“This shallow water deployment capability reflects OSRL’s continued investment in strengthening industry readiness for complex subsea incidents,” said Vania De Stefani, CEO of OSRL. “By bringing together the Split Lowering System and Snub Line Winch System, it helps support safer, controlled capping stack deployment in challenging shallow water scenarios.”
The system is designed for deployment in water depths ranging from 75 to 600 meters and can be mobilized by sea or air from OSRL’s base in Norway. It also allows installation without requiring components to interface with the seabed.
OSRL is showcasing the new capability at SpillAsia 2026 as part of its broader subsea well control and source control preparedness offering.
