(WO) – The Norwegian Ocean Industry Authority (Havtil) has initiated an investigation following a fire in an emergency switchboard room on Visund on Nov. 4, the regulator said.
Equinor is the operator of the Visund field. The fire began in an electrical switchboard room and caused severe smoke development that also spread to nearby rooms. The fire was extinguished, and no injuries were reported. Most of the personnel onboard were evacuated, and the facility was shut down and depressurized as a result of the incident.
Havtil said a team of its specialists is starting work on the investigation. The regulator said it will carefully review the chain of events, assess actual and potential consequences, assess direct and underlying causes, and identify regulatory nonconformities and improvement points. The investigation will be summarized in a report to be published on havtil.no.
Havtil said investigations of accidents and undesirable incidents are a central part of preventing further incidents in the petroleum industry, and that its investigations also aim to ensure compliance with HSE regulations.
