The Business Platinum Card® from American Express and American Express® Business Gold Card now feature a valuable benefit that can significantly change the math on whether either of these business cards is worth it for you.
New and existing cardholders can now take advantage of an annual $300 ChatGPT Business credit for U.S. purchases of business subscriptions (enrollment required; subject to auto-renewal).
This benefit is an ideal fit for businesses with a growing reliance on AI services. That trend is already well underway: According to a May 2025 Amex Trendex survey of 1,108 small businesses in the U.S., half (56%) say their business currently uses AI.
Amex has a habit of adding complicated benefits to its top-tier cards, but this benefit bucks that trend. The credit isn’t split into small monthly or quarterly increments; you simply make an eligible purchase and get the first $300 back in statement credits.
The American Express Business Gold Card maximizes spending with flexible bonus reward categories based on where your business spends the most.
- Earn up to $545 in credits every year for eligible business purchases
- Generous bonus rewards categories with high spending caps
- Earns flexible rewards you can transfer to 20 airline and hotel loyalty programs
- High annual fee
- Statement credit offers are earned on a monthly basis and only apply to specific purchases

How does the Amex ChatGPT credit work?
You earn the new ChatGPT credit when you enroll and make an eligible U.S. ChatGPT Business purchase.
The ChatGPT Business subscription is $25/month per seat for the monthly subscription or $20/month per seat for the annual subscription, and there is a two-seat minimum. That’s $50/month with monthly billing or $480 for an annual subscription.
For anyone who already pays for ChatGPT, this is an easy-to-use rebate. And if you’re new to the service, you could try it out for six months and get all of your monthly subscription fees back.
Who do these Amex Business cards make sense for?
The Amex Business Gold has a $375 annual fee (see rates and fees), and the Amex Business Platinum has a $895 annual fee (see rates and fees). With the new credit, businesses that already pay for ChatGPT will have an even easier time offsetting the card’s annual fee.
Other Amex Business Gold perks
The Amex Business Gold is a strong option for earning Amex Membership Rewards® points on your business spending, as you earn 4X points in the two eligible categories where your business spends the most each month. Those categories are:
- U.S. restaurant purchases (including takeout and delivery)
- U.S. gas station purchases
- U.S. advertising purchases in select media (online, TV, radio)
- U.S. purchases made from electronic goods retailers and software and cloud system providers
- Transit purchases, including trains, ferries, tolls, parking, buses, subways, taxis and rideshare services
- Monthly wireless phone service charges made directly from a service provider in the U.S.

You can also take advantage of over $500 in credits each year for purchases such as shipping, office supplies, Grubhub, Walmart+ and Squarespace.
Other Amex Business Platinum perks
The Amex Business Platinum is ideal for business owners who are also interested in luxury travel benefits.
It offers over $800 in annual credits for services such as Indeed, Adobe, Dell and U.S. wireless phone providers, and you can unlock even more business credits by hitting certain spending thresholds.
But those benefits are only half of the story; you also have access to an equally long list of travel perks. Cardholders can enroll to receive complimentary airport lounge access and elite status with Marriott, Hilton and The Leading Hotels of the World. That’s all on top of over $1,200 in annual credits for hotels, airline fees and CLEAR+.
You’ll need to carefully review the terms for each benefit to determine whether this card’s upfront cost makes sense for you. Even if you only use half of its benefits, you can come out ahead.
Amex business card application rules
The welcome bonuses available with these business cards are variable, so you won’t know your exact offer until you apply. However, you’ll be able to know whether you qualify for an offer before you finalize your application and your credit is pulled.
Amex typically limits you to earning a welcome bonus once per card per lifetime, so if you’ve had the Amex Business Gold or Amex Business Platinum before, you’re unlikely to be eligible for a new bonus. In addition, you’ll need a strong credit score to have reasonable approval odds for both of these cards.
These are business cards, which means you need to have a business, but it doesn’t have to be a full-time endeavor. You may qualify with a side hustle or as an independent contractor. If you’re a sole proprietor, you can typically use your Social Security number as your business tax ID.
