(WO) – Aquaterra Energy has finished the first phase of a fast-track offshore platform project in Nigeria for Emadeb Energy, an indigenous Nigerian oil and gas company. Within six months, Aquaterra designed and fabricated a subsea template so drilling can begin while the rest of the platform is still being built.
Aquaterra is delivering a conductor-supported platform that will host wellheads and send production to a nearby mobile offshore production unit (MOPU) for processing before export. In the second phase, the full platform structure will be installed over the completed wellheads, a step the companies are targeting for later in 2026. The full development, from engineering and fabrication through drilling and platform installation, is expected to take about 15 months.
To speed up delivery, the platform has a simplified topside. It also reuses elements of Aquaterra’s existing Sea Swift platform designs, which shortened engineering lead times. The rest of the platform structure is being fabricated at a yard in Nigeria.
“Installing the subsea template first will allow drilling to begin while the remaining platform structure continues through fabrication,” said Edward Betts, leader of Aquaterra’s offshore developments business unit.
“The project marks an important step as we continue to expand our upstream portfolio and grow our position as a leading indigenous energy company,” said Emadeb Group CEO Adebowale Olujimi.
