(WO) – Eni has signed the main engineering, procurement, construction and drilling contracts for the Cronos gas project in Block 6 offshore Cyprus, moving the development into execution. The execution phase was formally launched on Oct. 26 at a ceremony in Nicosia, attended by Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and Energy Minister Michael Damianos.
The contracts cover the floating control unit, transportation and installation, offshore sealines, the subsea production system, flexible lines, umbilicals, an onshore pipeline under an EPC contract, and drilling rig services. Eni didn’t name the contractors. The awards follow the final investment decision on July 28.
Cronos holds more than 3 Tcf of gas initially in place. Production is expected to start in the first half of 2028, rising to a plateau of up to 500 MMscfd. To fast-track development, Eni will rely on existing infrastructure: the gas will be piped to Egypt and processed through existing facilities, including Zohr’s. It will then be liquefied at the Damietta LNG plant for export, mainly to Europe.
Cronos will be Cyprus’ first hydrocarbon development and Eni’s first project in the country. Eni operates Block 6 with a 50% interest, with TotalEnergies as its partner. Eni also operates Block 8 and holds interests in Blocks 7 and 11, which TotalEnergies operates.
