(WO) — Guardian Decommissioning and Wild Well Control have reached an agreement to decommission the Bullwinkle platform in Green Canyon Block 65 in the Gulf of America/Mexico, with well abandonment activities scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Under the agreement, Guardian will assume operatorship as agent for the wells and eventually the associated pipelines and platform, overseeing the project through final decommissioning.
Guardian will work alongside current platform operator Talos Energy and Wild Well Control to conduct well abandonment operations while production continues at Bullwinkle. The project will proceed in phases, with well abandonment occurring first, followed by pipeline decommissioning and platform removal after Talos ceases production.
The later phases will include platform removal, jacket reefing, site clearance and associated insurance activities.
“This agreement reflects the complementary strengths of our organizations,” said Iain Murray, president of Guardian Decommissioning. “Guardian is built to manage complex offshore decommissioning projects, including multi-well campaigns and large-asset topside removals and jacket reefing.”
The agreement builds on an existing relationship between Guardian and Wild Well Control, which have previously collaborated on offshore decommissioning, well abandonment and specialized well control projects.
Wild Well Control and its parent company, Superior Energy Services, will continue focusing on well intervention and well control operations as Guardian assumes responsibility for the Bullwinkle decommissioning program.
Superior’s focus on well intervention follows its recently announced definitive agreement to acquire Welltec International ApS, a provider of robotic well intervention and completion technologies.
“We have collaborated successfully with Guardian on numerous projects and have confidence in their ability to execute this campaign,” said Bryan Ellis, president of Superior Energy Services’ Wellsite Solutions division, which includes Wild Well Control and International Snubbing Services.
The companies did not disclose the financial terms of the Bullwinkle agreement or a timeline for final platform removal.
