(WO) – Iraq’s Minister of Oil Basim Mohammed Khudair Al-Abadi has confirmed that agreements have been reached with Chevron on a contract for the West Qurna-2 oil field, according to a ministry statement carried by the state Iraqi News Agency (INA).
Under the agreement, the West Qurna-2 contract is to be signed before the end of the year, the minister said. Discussions with Chevron are continuing on the Nasiriyah field and four other exploration blocks.
Al-Abadi said the ministry will give full support to Chevron, ExxonMobil and other U.S. companies operating in Iraq, citing their extensive expertise in developing oil fields. He said the transfer of advanced technology to Iraq by global firms is evidence of an attractive investment environment that strengthens the country’s oil industry.
