(WO) — Mammoet has completed heavy-lift and marine operations for the Munin topsides at Aibel’s Haugesund yard, preparing the structure for offshore sailaway to Aker BP’s Yggdrasil development in the North Sea.
Aibel is responsible for engineering, procurement and construction of the Munin topsides, with construction carried out at its Haugesund facility and modules and sections supplied from its yard in Thailand.
Mammoet was contracted by Aibel in late 2023 to support critical transportation, heavy-lift and marine activities for the project. Its scope included moving the Utility Module from Aibel’s fabrication site in Thailand to the quayside and loading it onto a marine transport vessel for shipment to Norway.
Following arrival in Haugesund, Mammoet handled the load-in of the module and other sections. Shallow water conditions at the quayside required a transshipment operation onto a smaller barge before the components could be brought ashore and moved into Aibel’s assembly hall.
The campaign also involved positioning and mating the Utility Module with the Munin process module, with the companies navigating challenging winter weather and tight installation tolerances.
In July, the fully assembled Munin topsides was weighed to confirm its final weight and center of gravity before being moved from the Haugesund quayside and loaded onto its transportation barge. The load-out was performed within a narrow tidal window, according to Mammoet.
The completed topsides is now ready for offshore sailaway from Haugesund.
Munin is part of Aker BP’s broader Yggdrasil development in the Norwegian North Sea.
