(WO) — Petrobras has entered direct negotiations for exploration contracts covering four blocks offshore Ghana, as the Brazilian state-controlled producer continues to expand its frontier exploration portfolio beyond Brazil.
Ghana’s Ministry of Energy and Green Transition approved Petrobras’ application to negotiate for the four blocks, which are located in the offshore Keta basin. The approval allows the company to begin negotiating the terms of potential exploration contracts with the Ghanaian government.
Petrobras has not disclosed the specific blocks, potential ownership interests or planned exploration commitments.
The company said the move supports its strategy to replenish oil and gas reserves through exploration of new frontier areas in Brazil and internationally. Petrobras is evaluating new opportunities abroad as part of an effort to diversify its exploration portfolio and develop additional resources over the longer term.
The Ghana negotiations remain at an early stage, with exploration rights subject to the outcome of contract discussions.
