(WO) — Denholm Pipetech has completed the first well trial of its new Downhole Scale Remediation (DSR) tool, advancing development of the wellbore cleaning technology toward future field deployment and commercial application.
The DSR tool was developed in collaboration with the Net Zero Technology Centre’s (NZTC) emissions reduction program and is designed to remove scale from wellbores while improving cleaning efficiency.
The trial was conducted at NZTC’s Technology Testing Hub in Aberdeen to evaluate the tool in a well environment and establish an operational baseline for further development and deployment planning.
Although the DSR was originally designed for deployment on coiled tubing, the initial trial used drill pipe in 9⅝-in. casing to evaluate the technology’s potential across different operating configurations.
Pipetech and NZTC completed five test segments to assess cleaning coverage and operating behavior. Pre- and post-job camera inspections showed visible cleaning lines on the casing and particles downhole, providing evidence of the tool’s cleaning effectiveness, according to Pipetech.
The company said data collected during the trial will be used to refine the DSR ahead of future deployments, including potential coiled tubing applications.
“The DSR continues to make progress on its journey to market launch, even demonstrating capabilities for new applications and well environments beyond what we initially thought,” said Leonard Hamill, operations director at Pipetech.
Pipetech is also continuing to deploy its established Aqua Milling technology for oil and gas infrastructure in the UK. Recent work has included removing wax, hard scale, corrosion and other deposits from lines transporting North Sea production to processing terminals in England.
