(WO) — SLB has been selected as strategic reservoir partner for the Havstjerne carbon storage project in the Norwegian North Sea, providing technology and engineering services as the development advances through concept and front-end engineering and design (FEED).
Operated by Harbour Energy in consortium with Stella Maris CCS, a Yinson Production company, Havstjerne is being developed as a large-scale offshore CO₂ storage project serving industrial emitters across Europe.
SLB will coordinate work spanning subsurface and reservoir maturation, injection wells and early engineering. Its OneSubsea joint venture will provide concept and FEED services for the subsea injection system, including the template manifold, all-electric trees, control system, umbilical and distribution system.
The integrated scope is intended to connect reservoir analysis and injection well design with subsea infrastructure and CO₂ monitoring plans as the partners establish the project’s technical, cost and schedule basis ahead of a final investment decision.
“Carbon storage projects are moving from individual technical studies toward integrated development models that connect the subsurface, wells and offshore infrastructure,” said Gavin Rennick, president of SLB’s New Energy and Industrial business.
An appraisal well drilled in 2025 confirmed reservoir quality suitable for CO₂ injection and storage, providing a technical basis for continued development. Havstjerne also received €225 million from the EU Innovation Fund in 2025.
The project has selected a low-pressure floating storage and injection concept, with the partners focused on developing a cost-effective offshore storage solution for European industrial CO₂.
“Havstjerne is being matured to provide a cost-effective, large-scale offshore CO₂ storage for European industrial emitters,” said project manager Mark van Aerssen. “This integrated approach will help us further define the project’s technical, cost and schedule basis while strengthening coordination across critical interfaces.”
