Sonatrach and Ghana National Petroleum Corporation have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on research and development initiatives aimed at strengthening upstream oil and gas capabilities across Africa.
The agreement, signed under the auspices of the African Petroleum Producers Organization (APPO), establishes a framework for technical cooperation, knowledge sharing and joint evaluation of R&D opportunities related to exploration, production and reservoir management.
According to African Energy Chamber, areas of focus include advanced seismic technologies, digital oilfield applications, reservoir modeling, enhanced oil recovery, well integrity and asset life extension. The partnership also includes collaboration on emissions management and other energy transition-related technologies alongside core upstream development.
For Ghana, the agreement supports efforts to revitalize mature fields, expand gas development and improve recovery through technology deployment. For Algeria, it aligns with Sonatrach’s broader strategy to sustain production and apply technical expertise across regional partnerships.
The companies said the collaboration is intended to support more efficient, technically robust and sustainable hydrocarbon development, while strengthening cooperation among African national oil companies.
