(WO) — The Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC) will gain access to satellite-based ground-motion data across the Permian basin to support its Underground Injection Control (UIC) program under a new partnership between B3 Insight and SatSense.
The agreement integrates SatSense’s interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) measurements with subsurface injection data available through B3 Insight’s OilfieldH2O platform. The system will allow regulators to compare surface deformation with injection activity and geologic conditions across the basin.
The platform combines satellite ground-motion measurements with data on water injection, pressure, infrastructure and regulatory activity. Ground-motion information will be updated as new satellite acquisitions are processed.
“This is a critical time to ensure that all stakeholders have the tools they need to advance their understanding of injection risk,” said Kelly Bennett, CEO of B3 Insight.
The additional data will support the RRC’s permitting, monitoring and long-term planning for underground injection operations in the Permian basin.
B3 Insight and SatSense previously integrated their subsurface and satellite datasets after working together as technology partners with the Center for Injection and Seismicity Research (CISR). Their combined system allows operators and regulators to assess surface movement alongside subsurface injection activity rather than analyzing the datasets separately.
