(WO) — The Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC) assessed more than $3.1 million in enforcement penalties against operators and businesses during its latest open meeting.
Commissioners assessed a total of $3,129,400 in fines related to enforcement dockets. The RRC has primary regulatory oversight of Texas’ oil and gas industry as well as intrastate pipeline safety.
Of the total, approximately $2.11 million was assessed through Master Agreed Orders involving operators ordered to comply with Commission rules.
Another $1.02 million was assessed through Master Default Orders against operators that failed to appear at Commission enforcement proceedings.
The RRC said the decisions will become final in the absence of timely motions for rehearing.
