U.S.PresidentDonald Trumpis removingBilly Longas the commissioner of theInternal Revenue Serviceand Treasury SecretaryScott Bessentwill temporarily serve as acting commissioner, aWhite Houseofficial and a source familiar with the matter said on Friday.
TheNew York Times, which first reported the news, said Long, a former congressman fromMissouri, was expected to be nominated for an ambassador post, but did not name the country.
“Secretary Bessent will now serve as acting commissioner of theIRS,” theWhite Houseofficial said.
ATreasuryspokesperson declined to comment.
Long was sworn in as the 51st Commissioner of theIRSin June, with his term meant to run throughNovember 2027.
