(WO) — Vår Energi and Equinor have discovered gas and condensate at the Lakris prospect in the Norwegian Sea, with preliminary estimates indicating recoverable resources of 1.3 MMboe to 5.5 MMboe.
The discovery was made in wildcat well 6407/5-3 S in production license 1002, in the Gimsan basin on the Halten Terrace, approximately 170 km northwest of Kristiansund. Vår Energi operates the license, in which Equinor is a partner. The well was drilled by the COSL Prospector rig.
The well encountered gas and condensate in 54 m of heterogeneous reservoir rocks in the upper Tilje Formation, although reservoir quality was moderate to poor. The gas-water contact was not encountered, and hydrocarbon shows were also identified in the lower Tilje Formation.
The well did not encounter a sandstone reservoir in the targeted Nise Formation, although elevated gas readings were recorded in the interval. The Garn, Ile and Tofte formations were also investigated, but the intervals contained water and had moderate to poor reservoir quality.
The well reached a vertical depth of 4,225 m below sea level in a water depth of 218 m. It was not formation-tested, but data and samples were collected. The well will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.
