(WO) — Viridien has launched an 18-month integrated prospectivity and subsurface study covering approximately 60,000 km² of onshore Sabah, Malaysia, in collaboration with Petronas through Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM).
The multi-client study will assess the region’s hydrocarbon potential and identify new exploration opportunities, building on its proximity to established offshore petroleum systems. Modern seismic coverage across onshore Sabah remains limited.
Viridien will integrate geological, geophysical, remote sensing, field and laboratory data to evaluate basin-scale prospectivity. The study will include play definition, sweet-spot identification and resource assessment, along with digital geological mapping to support future exploration and potential seismic acquisition.
“Through this IPSS project, we will apply those capabilities to onshore Sabah, where modern seismic data coverage remains limited, but the exploration potential is considered significant,” said Dechun Lin, Head of Earth Data at Viridien.
