We're trimming a stock near its 2026 highs and buying more of our newest name
Shortly after the opening bell, we will sell 150 shares of Starbucks at roughly $99.65 and buy 75 shares of Johnson & Johnson at roughly $234.18. Following the trades, Jim Cramer’s Charitable Trust will own 1,000 shares of SBUX, decreasing its weighting in the portfolio to 2.68% from 3.07% and 225 shares of JNJ, increasing its weight in the portfolio to 1.40% from 0.95%. We’re booking profits in Starbucks with shares of the coffee chain trading back near their highs for 2026. The stock closed at $100 a share Friday. We still have plenty of confidence in CEO Brian Niccol’s long-term strategy to improve top-line growth. However, we haven’t taken anything off into this year’s almost 20% rally and we want to hedge against an uneven turnaround, especially on margins. Starbucks reports earnings on April 28. From this sale, we will realize a gain of about 19% on stock purchased in August 2022. We’re taking this cash to make our second purchase of Johnson & Johnson. Shares of this pharmaceutical and medical-technology giant are down slightly since we started this position two weeks ago despite a clean beat-and-raise first-quarter earnings report. We view the dip as a good opportunity to scale deeper into this pharma name with very little patent-cliff risk and a strong pipeline, highlighted by its recently approved daily psoriasis pill Icotyde.
