(WO) — Zenith Energy Australia has been awarded a contract by the Australian government to lead Phase 2 of the Northern Endeavour decommissioning program, including the permanent plugging and abandonment (P&A) of nine subsea wells in the Timor Sea.
The contract, awarded following an international tender process, covers wells within the Laminaria-Corallina oil fields and represents a key stage in the decommissioning of the former Northern Endeavour offshore production facilities and associated subsea infrastructure.
As lead contractor, Zenith will provide project management and engineering services to design and plan the P&A campaign. Its scope includes detailed well engineering, execution planning, regulatory approvals and acceptances, management of offshore P&A operations, transportation and storage of recovered infrastructure and materials, and field monitoring through handover to Phase 3.
Execution of the offshore P&A campaign remains subject to Commonwealth approval.
“The Northern Endeavour phase 2 programme represents a significant milestone for the offshore decommissioning sector in the Asia-Pacific region, and we are proud to have been entrusted with a leading role in its delivery,” said Chris Collie, wells director at Zenith Energy.
“The project aligns closely with Zenith’s core capabilities, drawing on our experience in complex plug and abandonment campaigns, well management and late-life asset support across the UK Continental Shelf and internationally,” Collie added.
The Northern Endeavour program was established to safely decommission the offshore production facilities and associated infrastructure at the Laminaria-Corallina fields. Phase 2 focuses on permanently abandoning the nine subsea wells to ensure their long-term integrity before the program advances to its next stage.
Zenith said the project is among the largest offshore decommissioning programs underway in the Asia-Pacific region and could help establish benchmarks for future offshore abandonment work as decommissioning activity increases across the region.
