(WO) — Zupt is mobilizing its 3D Recon V2 subsea imaging system for an inspection campaign in the U.S. Gulf, where the technology will generate high-resolution 3D models to support subsea asset integrity assessments.
The deployment follows completion of system integration testing. Ahead of offshore operations, Zupt completed trajectory evaluations, data volume and operational time estimates, and task planning for the structures to be inspected.
During the campaign, 3D Recon V2 will capture inspection data that can be processed into dense point clouds, providing detailed digital records of subsea structures for integrity management and inspection, repair and maintenance (IRM) applications.
The compact system is rated for water depths of up to 4,000 meters and combines two high-resolution machine-vision cameras with a MEMS inertial measurement unit (IMU). The integration of imaging and inertial technologies enables the system to produce geospatially accurate 3D models of subsea assets.
3D Recon V2 can also generate real-time sparse point clouds for navigation and quality control, while higher-density models can be used by engineers to evaluate asset condition.
Beyond integrity management and IRM, Zupt said the technology can be used for jumper and spool metrology, mooring chain inspection, hull inspection, pipeline out-of-straightness surveys and pre-installation and as-built documentation.
Zupt did not identify the operator, field or specific subsea assets involved in the upcoming U.S. Gulf campaign.
