(WO) — Afentra plc has revised its offshore Angola drilling schedule, moving the Borr Grid rig directly to the Impala-2 development well in Block 3/05 ahead of the planned Pacassa SW sidetrack. Both wells are expected to begin production in the first quarter of 2027.
Impala-2 is scheduled to spud in mid-October, with drilling and completion operations expected to take approximately 80 days. First oil is targeted for January 2027 at an initial gross production rate of approximately 4,000 bopd. The well plan incorporates reservoir data from a successful intervention at Impala-1, which restored production. Joint venture partners have agreed to fund Impala-2 directly, retaining a reduced gross well cost cap of $60 million.
Following completion of Impala-2, the Borr Grid will return to Pacassa SW to drill and complete a sidetrack. The discovery well encountered 136 m of net oil pay but requires a sidetrack after operational problems restricted access to the wellbore. First oil is expected in Q1 2027 through existing Pacassa production infrastructure.
Afentra is also remapping the Pacassa SW discovery using the latest well data to assess resource potential previously estimated at up to approximately 70 MMbbl. Updated oil-in-place and resource estimates will be released following completion of the assessment.
“The decision to move directly to Impala-2 provides operational flexibility, optimises the Block 3/05 drilling programme and enables us to maintain operational momentum,” said Paul McDade, CEO of Afentra. The company also plans to begin a hydraulic workover program in Block 3/05 in early 2027.
