(WO) – Murphy Oil Corp. has signed two production sharing contracts covering the C-10 and Tiof blocks offshore Mauritania. Together, the blocks cover about 3.1 million acres (12,500 km²).
Murphy, through its subsidiaries, will operate both blocks with a 90% working interest. Mauritania’s national oil company, Société Mauritanienne des Hydrocarbures (SMH), holds the remaining 10% as a carried interest. The two companies will now work together to further evaluate the blocks’ exploration potential.
The deal adds to Murphy’s growing West Africa exploration portfolio. Offshore Côte d’Ivoire, the company made a light oil discovery at its Bubale-1X well in June, after an earlier well there came up dry.
