(WO) — Subsea Cable Assets (SCA) has secured an approximately $20 million contract from Saipem Contracting Netherlands B.V. to provide cable transportation and handling services for a major offshore energy project in the Caspian region.
The award is SCA’s first contract and covers engineering, equipment fabrication, installation and operation, as well as demobilization and reinstatement.
SCA will provide five cable transport carousels, each with a 1,100-tonne capacity, along with associated cable handling equipment. The company will manage the campaign from equipment supply through on-site deployment.
The cable spooling equipment will initially be mobilized on a cable transport vessel for cable loadout at JDR Cable Systems in the UK. The loaded carousels will then be transported to southeastern Europe before being transferred using self-propelled modular transporters onto smaller barges for onward transport to the Caspian region.
“This multi-million-dollar contract with Saipem demonstrates the experience our team brings to complex cable transport and handling projects,” said SCA Chief Operating Officer Sil de Rijke.
Manufacturing of the carousels and associated equipment is underway at SCA’s Dubai facility, with shipment to Europe planned by the end of 2026.
SCA said its supply chain includes engineering and manufacturing facilities in Europe and Dubai. The company has delivered more than 50 cable carousels and associated equipment worldwide.
