(WO) — Subsea Cable Assets (SCA) has expanded its offshore equipment offering with the launch of a cable carousel rental service, backed by a multi-million-dollar investment in two new systems.
The initial rental fleet will include 4,000- and 6,000-ton capacity carousels designed for the storage, loading and handling of subsea cables, flexibles and umbilicals. SCA has already secured a first rental contract with a European client covering both systems.
The rental model is intended to provide offshore contractors and operators with temporary or project-specific carousel capacity without the capital and maintenance requirements associated with owning the equipment. The systems can also be reconfigured to accommodate different project requirements.
“Carousels are central to safe and controlled cable handling, but purchasing and maintaining a fleet can be a significant financial outlay, particularly for projects with fluctuating or seasonal demand,” said Sil de Rijke, COO of SCA. “Our rental solution addresses this head on, giving an option that helps to keep costs proportionate to actual usage.”
SCA will combine the rental systems with loading equipment, cable handling services, mobilization support and offshore operational support. The company operates engineering and manufacturing facilities in Europe and Dubai.
SCA has delivered more than 50 carousel systems worldwide, including units with capacities of up to 12,000 tons. Its equipment supports cable, flexible and umbilical projects across the offshore oil and gas, subsea, offshore wind and interconnector markets.
