(WO) — TDI-Brooks has completed a geophysical and geotechnical survey for a marine cable route in Alaska’s Valdez Arm, deploying its Gravity CPT Stinger (gCPT) system on behalf of Woolpert.
The project used the gCPT system to collect in-situ soil data along the proposed cable route. Designed for deployment in remote offshore environments, the system transports a piezocone penetrometer (PCPT) to the seabed and can collect data from the mudline to depths of 5 m and, under suitable conditions, more than 10 m below the mudline.
Piezocone testing provides continuous measurements of tip resistance, sleeve friction and pore pressure, allowing soil strength and stratigraphy to be evaluated in real time without conventional drilling.
For marine cable installation, the resulting data can be used to assess soil variability along the route, determine burial and trenching conditions and identify potential geohazards that could affect installation.
TDI-Brooks said the portable system is designed to support offshore site investigations in remote and logistically challenging environments such as Alaska.
